How Often Should You Clean Your Carpets?

We all know that good home hygiene is vital to the health of your house, and whoever lives in it, but, how often do you really need to clean your carpets? Your carpets will harbour many unwanted surprises like pollutants, grime and germs. Even if you hoover your carpet regularly, and you think it looks perfectly clean, the dirt and grime will probably be deep in the pile of the carpet. The longer you leave it the harder it is to get clean again.

So, it should probably be cleaned more often than you think.

Carpet Cleaning Best Habits

The golden rule of carpet cleaning is to hoover twice a week and organise professional carpet cleaning once a year. However, this is not a one size fits all approach.

For heavy footfall areas, or households with children, pets or smokers, the rate of cleaning should be much higher. You may want to hoover several times a week, and you should arrange professional carpet cleaning every 3-6 months.

On top of this, if you have had a particularly large party, with several spillages, or, if you have just had building work done, you may want to organise an extra one off clean too.

Factors That Affect Carpet Cleaning

Many aspects of your life can affect how often you should clean your carpets.

Children can wreak all kinds of havoc on your white and cream carpets, juice, muddy feet, and maybe even felt tip pens don’t tend to agree with carpets. So, if you are a parent you may want to get the high traffic areas of your home professionally cleaned every 6-12 months.

Pets are another culprit when it comes to the health of your carpets, they don’t often have the best interests of your carpets in mind when they come strolling in covered in mud. When you have pets we also recommend arranging professional carpet cleaning twice a year.
